Join the Waiting List

To add your child to the waiting list, please complete the form on this page.

We are a charity for children who don’t have access to a horse or pony of their own. If your child already owns or loans a pony then please do not add them to the list. We may not offer a place to children who do.

Cost – It currently cost £119 per month to attend. This covers our day to day running costs only. Equipment, horses, and buildings are funded through grants and fundraising.

How long is the wait? – Our waiting list has around 700 names. The junior list (ages 8-10) takes around 2-3 years. At 9.5 children move to the senior list (ages 10-18) The list moves slowly because most senior places go to juniors moving up.

If your child is over 11 they are unlikely to get a place. If your child has not been offered a place by age 13 we will remove them from the list and delete their details.

You can email us at any time to check your child’s position on the list.

Keeping in touch – While you wait, we’ll email you a quarterly newsletter with our news. You can opt out on the the form or unsubscribe any time using the link in each email. Please check your junk folder as our emails often end up there.

Support us – You can donate to help us continue this work via our Windsor Horse Rangers Zeffy account

How we use your information

We use the details on this form to manage our waiting list and contact you when a place becomes available. We delete your childs details when they take up a place, when you ask us to or when they turn 13. Unless you opt out above, we’ll also send you our quarterly newsletter. You can unsubscribe at any time. Read our WHR privacy notice to find out more, including your rights.

Additional information for parents of children wishing to join

Thank you for your interest in Windsor Horse Rangers. Once your child’s name has been placed on the waiting list you will be contacted when a place becomes available. We are unable to say when this may be as we can only cater for a set number of children. You are welcome to e-mail us and check where your child is on the waiting list at any time. However if your child has not been offered a place by the time they reach the age of 13 they will be taken off the waiting list.

We like to keep in touch with the families on our waiting list so we will send you a quarterly newsletter once your child is registered. Please check your junk mail as it often ends up in there, as does the invitation to join!

Windsor Horse Rangers is a voluntary organisation run for the benefit of it’s members. The organisation is administered by a board of trustees comprising parents, officers and persons with specialist knowledge or ability. The daily running of the organisation is undertaken by volunteers who have either significant equine knowledge and/or experience working with children.

The children attend one of four sessions depending on age, preference and availability. The sessions are:
1. Saturday AM 08:30 to 13:00
2. Sunday AM 08:30 to 13:00
3. Saturday PM 13:30 to 16:30
4. Sunday PM 13:30 to 16:30

Children aged 8 to 10 attend an afternoon session and those 10 to 18 a morning session. The sessions are referred to as “Junior Rangers” or “Senior Rangers” respectively. Some senior rangers remain for the afternoon session by invitation to assist the junior rangers.

When you are contacted and your child invited to join, a session will be offered determined first by age and then by availability – you will have advised us of your preference when submitting your child’s name. Your child will then be invited to attend that session for a period of four weeks as a trial period. Given that the basic clothing and protection requirements for riding involve significant cost we find it best to offer this trial period to ensure that you and your child are happy with the ethos and practice of the organisation before committing fully.

Your child is expected to attend Rangers every week, where possible, but the trial period covers the four weeks that the child can actually attend. Rangers is not suited to those who want an occasional visit or ride. We have a large waiting list running into many hundreds of children and it would be a waste of a place if a child only came occasionally.

If your child does not attend Rangers for 4 weeks in a row, then their place will be offered to someone else unless we have been informed of the absence.

Occasionally we do not offer a place to a child after their trial on the grounds of unsuitability to join our organisation but this is very rare.

Your child’s safety is of paramount importance and our procedures and rules are based on that premise. Horses are live animals and as such are unpredictable and potentially dangerous. In as far as it is possible children are made aware of this and are supervised at all times. There are always a minimum of three adults on duty at all times, at least one of whom is female.

Windsor Horse Rangers is a voluntary organisation and as such relies upon the dedication of its Officers and adult helpers to run. We do ask that if parents have any particular interest or knowledge that they are prepared to offer us that they approach one of the Officers to discuss this, however small or irregular the commitment might be. All adult volunteers will be required to have a DBS check and provide personal references for safety and child safeguarding purposes.

It is a clause of membership that parents participate in the canteen rota, which requires a commitment of a few sessions per year to assist with the children’s break-time.

If your child decides to leave Rangers after they have been enrolled then we require four weeks notice or four weeks subs in lieu of notice.  This is so we can still meet our monthly running costs while finding a new child to fill the space.
